  • In Dec. of 2009 a group of Tivolites who were concerned about the dilapidated state of the Tivoli Gym, met at Bethel AME Church in Argyle. It was our desire to restore this historical building to its former glory. It was a daunting task and there were a few impediments that would not allow us to go forward at that time. From this group the genesis of The Tivoli Historical Society began and was made official in the spring of 2010. Undeterred by the gym project, we decided to form The Tivoli Museum. It opened to hundreds of visitors in Oct. 2011. The call was put out to Tivolites all over the country appealing for pictures, articles and artifacts. They came through in full force. An appeal to the Walton County School Board for a building to house the massive accumulation was heard and we were granted one room (we need more) in The Tivoli Complex, formerly Tivoli School. The Tivoli Museum opened to 100's of visitors, many who were awestruck, in Oct of 2011. The loss of history and many Tivolites passing left us with the will to once again bring to memory what it meant to walk the hallowed halls of Tivoli. An amazing amount of the younger generation have become interested and to enlighten them was one of our greatest desires. They are the future who will carry the torch for Tivoli for generations to come.

  •  In 2016 after many meetings advocating the return of the Gym to the Black community by THS President Eddie Williamson, The Walton County School Board handed the keys and title to the Tivoli Gym, now owned by the THS, to the intrepid Pres. Williamson. The Gym is currently being restored thanks to donations from many alumni, organizations and concerned citizens. The THS created group "Friends of Tivoli" alone helped to put a new roof on the building. We urge all concerned Tivolites, citizens and anyone interested in preserving this historic building and The Tivoli Museum to continue to contribute. We sincerely thank the  Walton School District, Board of County Commissioners, City of Defuniak Springs Sheriff's Dept.  Friends of Tivoli, and Lowes. All donations are greatly appreciated. • In 2014 and  2018 The THS held  Tivoli Grand Reunions. They were enjoyed by hundreds of people who once attended our beloved school as well as some of their progeny . Many saw classmates they had not seen in 40 or 50 years.  The chatter was constant. It was a joyous event and one we plan to continue because the people are Tivoli. In 2014

In 2014  After the museum visit people  clustered in the  foyer and continued to enjoy each other's company. It truly was a grand experience. If you have ideas or suggestions for the next reunion. Drop us a line.
